How To > How to set up account to access usenet server using Forte Agent

Before you can use Agent, you may need to initialize the program by entering a unique registration number and you will need to enter the names of your mail and news servers. Additionally, if your news server requires a user name or password to log in or if you're using either a Dial-Up Networking (DUN) or Remote Access Services (RAS) dialer, you must configure Agent for these features as well.

To register Agent:
1. Run Agent.

Windows 95 or later - Click the Start button, select Programs, then select the Agent flyout menu and click the Agent icon.

Windows 3.x - In Program Manager, open the Agent program group and double-click the Agent icon.

2. Read the Licensing Agreement (in downloaded versions only). Click the Agree button to proceed.

3. Register your copy of Agent. You are required register your software if you want to operate Agent after the 30 day trial period has ended.

For electronically downloaded copies of Agent, copy the registration key sent to you via email after purchasing Agent and paste it into Agent's registration dialog box (see the example below). Then press OK.

For Agent as Trialware, you can use Agent for 30 days without a registration key. When presented with the registration dialog box, select “continue evaluating software” to keep using Agent unregistered.
For shrink-wrapped copies of Agent, enter your name, the name of your organization (optional), and the serial number (found on the shrink-wrapped package), shown as follows. Then press OK.

After registering your copy of Agent, the Agent Setup dialog box appears.

      1. News (NNTP) Server – You will need the name of a computer that Agent needs to connect to in order to collect USENET news. This is a name your ISP can provide if you do not already have it on hand.
      2. Mail (SMTP) Server - This is the name of a computer that Agent needs to connect to in order to send your Email. This is a name your ISP can provide if you do not already have it on hand.
4. Full Name - (Optional) your full name. This name will be included with your email address in the messages you send. It's helpful to include your full name if your email address doesn't contain your name. Also, some newsreaders display full names, if available, rather than email addresses.
5. Time Zone - (16-bit Agent only) Select the time zone in which you are located. Agent uses the time zone to convert the dates of messages to your own local time.
