Q.

A. Yes. Enter the info just like you would a credit card on our newsgroups sign up form.

Q. How does your billing show up on my credit card?

A. Our billing will show up as www.UsenetMonster.com

Q. Do you keep log files of reading and posting activities?

A. Lots of newsgroup providers boast about not keeping log files of your reading activities. While technically, this may be true, it's pretty misleading. Let us be the first to enlighten you to the truth about this issue. All news servers run what is called news server software. It's simply software that allows the news server to operate. By design this software creates log files. That means there are logs created of what you're reading. Surprise! Now we can't claim to know what any other newsgroup provider is doing with these logs. We can only tell you what we do with ours. To put it simply our log files are constantly being overwritten. Quite frankly we do not have the space or resources to hold log files of everything that gets read on our system. If we saved all of these log files for every client we'd end up with logs requiring more space than our news articles do. Instead we designate a very small space on our drives to logs. That means that shortly after you've read an artic le the log is overwritten and we can no longer retrieve it. By only designating a small space to log files it ensures your privacy while saving on our precious resources.

We've also seen newsgroup providers claim not to log your posting activities. All news server software generates log files for what you post. These log files tend to be much smaller than the files generated of what's being read simply because there are thousands more people reading than posting. Therefore these logs can be kept for a much longer time. Here at Usenet Monster our posting files are kept for several days. The reason for this is not because we want to look in on what you're doing but because we need the log files to track down spammers. As long as you don't spam our system you can be guaranteed that your posting logs will never be reviewed. So if you run across a provider claiming to not log your posting you have to ask yourself the question. How do you think they track down their spammers if they don't keep posting logs?

Q. Do you share my personal information with anyone?

A. Your private information is never shared with anyone. 99% of the people that work for this company can't even get access to it. Most of the spam you get is probably due to the fact that your email address is being sold by companies you've done business with on the Internet. The selling of information is big business. All you need to do is look in your Inbox to see that. Here at Usenet Monster we refuse to profit from your personal information. We pledge never to sell or distribute your personal information to a third party in any way.

Q. What is your Usenet news server address?

A. Limited accounts: news.usenetmonster.com
     Unlimited accounts: unlimited.usenetmonster.com

Q. How many concurrent connections am I allowed?

A. Limited accounts (10)!
     Unlimited accounts (4)

Q. Why do you guys only carry 28,000 newsgroups when other providers carry 100,000+

A. We've seen tons of newsgroup providers bragging about 100,000+ newsgroups. Did you know this is nothing more than a marketing ploy? While technically there may be 100,000+ newsgroups, only about 28,000 of them are active. The rest are nothing more than spam riddled or dead groups. So in essence these providers are bragging about 72,000+ useless groups. Why pay for that? We still haven't figured out why any newsgroup provider would want to designate space and resources to spam when it could be allocated to the groups people actually care about. Here at Usenet Monster we only carry the active groups. That means you waste less time and get more system resources devoted to the newsgroups you love. We also honor newsgroup requests. If there is a group you want and we don't carry it, all you have to do is ask and we'll add it.

Q. What happens when I reach my download limit?

A. You will no longer be able to download from the news server. You will need to purchase more Gigs to continue downloading.

Q. Do Rollover Gigs Ever expire?

A. No. As long as you keep your account active they will not expire.

Q. How do I know when I'm getting low on Gigs?

A. Log into the user section and you'll see your Gig balance on the right hand side under "My Account". We also have an email notification system. To enable it click on "System Notifications" in the user section. Make sure "Low on Gigs" is checked and you will be emailed when you get below the specified amount.

Q. You don't carry my favorite newsgroup. Can you add it?

A. Sure we can. Just click on the newsgroup request link in the user section.
